Two of the primary narratives on the NFL betting front going into Week 9 of the season boils down to the surprising emergence of the Indianapolis Colts (7-1) and New England Patriots (6-2).

Notable Super Bowl Line Movement

“The Colts and Patriots are two surprise contenders this year,” said Christian Cipollini, Senior Manager, BetMGM. “Each has seen their odds to win the Super Bowl shorten after hot starts. Bettors have not shown much interest and either team winning it all would be an outcome for the sportsbook.”

Notable line movement for Super Bowl as of today at BetMGM: Chiefs +750 to +450, Lions +850 to +600, Colts +10000 to +1100, and Patriots +12500 to +3000.

Chiefs Betting Favourites

Highest ticket percentage is the Lions (10.8%), Bills (10.2%), and the Ravens (8.2%), with the highest handle percentage Bills (12.6%), Lions (11.1%) and the Eagles (10.0%).

One notable bet there: Someone at BetMGM bet $10,000 to win $660,000 on Lions-Patriots Super Bowl matchup (+6600).

At ESPN BET, the Chiefs remain Super Bowl favorites at +475, the Lions shortened from +650 Sunday morning to +600 now after their bye week, still the second-best Super Bowl Winner odds.

The Bills announced that DT Ed Oliver is out indefinitely with a torn left biceps, a massive hit impacting their Super Bowl odds.

“As we enter Week 9 of the NFL season, the Kansas City Chiefs are the current Super Bowl favorites, despite a 5-3 record. We are not too surprised by that, although it may look odd to see a three-loss team as the Super Bowl favorite after just eight weeks. Right now on a neutral field, the Chiefs would be 2.5-point favorites vs. the Indianapolis Colts,” said Joey Feazel, Head of Football at Caesars Sportsbook.

Maye With Second Best MVP Odds

The Packers moved from +750 Sunday morning to +700 now, leapfrogging the Bills, who slid from +700 to +800.

The Eagles (were +1000/now +900), Colts (were +1200/now +1000) and Rams (were +1200/now +1000) maintain the next best odds on the board.

Patrick Mahomes remains the regular season MVP favorite after the weekend (was +135, now +155). Drake Maye still has the second-best odds, shortening from +700 Sunday morning to +400 now, tied with Josh Allen. 

Baker Mayfield was +750, now +1300, followed by Daniel Jones at +1400 after entering Sunday at +1800, Matt Stafford (was +1400, now +1400), and Dak Prescott (was +1800, now +7500).

Jonathan Taylor jumped from +4000 to the 7th-best odds at +1600.
