The Trump administration’s recent ballroom expansion replacing the East Wing in the White House has received funding from many sources, the list includes two names well known in the gaming industry: The Adelson Family Foundation and Hard Rock International.
Trump has revealed that the project, which was originally going to only cost $200 million, has now reached a higher monetary threshold of $300 million required for its construction.
The White House has not had any new major additions since 1942 during the Presidency of Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Trump has addressed rumors claiming that the ballroom will be named after him:
“That’s fake news. We’re probably going to call it the presidential ballroom or something like that.”
A list has been released naming 37 donors from whom funds for the new ballroom are expected to come.
Some of the names listed have had a history with both Trump and the administration, whether directly or indirectly.
Among the donors, Hard Rock has stuck out as the only gambling company listed amongst the donors.
Neither the Adelson Family Foundation nor Hard Rock International has made any comments regarding the funding of the ballroom.
The amounts donated by either have yet to be disclosed to the public.
A Notable Past
The appearance of the Hard Rock name among the donors had been unexpected, due to the strained past between them and Trump.
The Seminole Tribe, owners of Hard Rock, has been faced with problems that have come about due to Trump’s policies.
Delays in the development of casinos have been going on since Trump took office.
Currently, Hard Rock has a total of 18 casinos across multiple US states.
The other donor, the Adelson Family Foundation, has had a rather positive past with Trump.
Since the 2016 presidential campaign, the Adelson family has been the biggest financial donor to Trump, and even after the passing of Sheldon Adelson, the support has been continued by his wife, Dr. Miriam Adelson.
As a sign of goodwill, back in 2018 Trump did something the Adelsons had long been after: he had the United States Embassy moved to Jerusalem.
Other Donors
Amongst other things, there have been other easily recognizable names amongst the donors.
Defense contractors like Lockheed Martin, as well as tech giants like Meta and oil firms like Booz Alle,n have been listed as a majority amongst the donors.
