The United Arab Emirates’ gaming regulator, the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA), announced a major leadership transition due to the departure of its chief executive officer.

GCGRA Parts Ways with Its CEO

In its official announcement, the GCGRA confirmed that CEO Kevin Mullally will be stepping down from his position with immediate effect. Mullally played a key role in the foundation of the regulatory body and spearheaded an age of legal gaming in the UAE. He was praised for his input in the creation of the UAE’s framework and integrity standards.

Mullally is no stranger to gaming and gaming regulation. Prior to his stint with the GCGRA, he spent some 17 years at Gaming Laboratories International. Earlier still, he spent over 12 years at the Missouri Gaming Commission.

With Mullally stepping down, the GCGRA board named chair Jim Murren as interim CEO with immediate effect.

The GCGRA emphasized that the change in leadership will lead to no disruption in its operation, licensing programs and stakeholder engagements.

Mullally Wants to Spend More Time with His Family

Mullally commented on his departure, saying that it was no easy decision. He described his time as CEO of the GCGRA as one of the “greatest professional honors” of his career and thanked everyone who had supported him during his tenure.

Mullally said that he was pleased with the UAE’s regulatory framework, which was the result of his team’s hard work. However, a recent trip to the US made him rethink his priorities. As a result, Mullally decided to prioritize his family over his work.

Following his departure, Mullally will return to Kansas City to spend time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

While this decision has not been easy, it is the right one for us and our family. I am confident in the strength of the GCGRA, grateful for the dedication of its people, and proud of what we have accomplished together.

We thank him for his contribution and wish him continued success in his future endeavours. The GCGRA remains focused on the next stage of its growth, ensuring regulatory excellence, responsible gaming, and continued confidence in the UAE’s approach.
